KISSMIS – Get to the point!

I always enjoyed reading historical fiction, simplistic stories and puristic philosophies… like wandering in an endless journey, walking with patience thru wonderland.

For such a long time, that argument has been echoing in my mind, even took part in most of the discussions.

“Actions those does not comply with the natural flow, are destined to fail..! The other way around will most probability succeed. remember, nothing comes for granted!”

Before moving further, worth to mention that I dislike long documentations and presentations! And if I have to read such docs, this reveals Bart Simpson syndrome inside, aka 2nd page becomes ‘bla bla bla…’ :D

That’s being said, I would like share few practices from my humble experiences.

Why to share? Because, knowledge is valuable & fun only if you share.

Lets begin!

KISSMIS – Keep It Simple Sharp Make It Smile

is the way to follow, in all of activities..!

Who invented this style, where did I learn from?  Dunno, but surely learning by doing…

Basic Principle:
Organize your slides into 5 (five) sections and associate each slide with one element of life, in order as given below (feel free to swap around if you like so)

1) Highlights (-> Air)

This section should warm up your audience, trigger curiosity and excitement.

2) What..? (-> Earth)

Problem & status description goes into this section.

Your audience is already aware of the problems, so you better spend less time with that slide, keep it short by providing basic facts!

p.s. here comes a nice cartoon for the sake of a good old friend, aka mr.facts, who repeatedly told me to provide “facts, facts, facts” 8)

vimrod.com / lifefacts

3) Why..? (-> Void)

That’s my favorite section! Try to answer this question in a simplest possible way. You should aim to increase attention by giving better taste about your message, vision, ambition, …

Do story telling if you can, that will inspire & increase the appetite for the rest of your session.

4) How..? (-> Water)

Define smooth and flexible action plan which must be clear & pure like water. simply, get to the point!
how you want to solve, how you want to act!
do not to use gantt chart or project plans, there are thousands of them already. if you want to get things done, the ‘how’ must be different!

5) Conclusion… (-> Fire)

Sum up with key items, all must be motivational, coherent and tangible.

So far this structure would convey your message
naturally by Keeping It Simple Sharp (KISS)..!

And now we need to Make It Smile (MIS)..!

Use pictures, preferably cartoons, related to the context but definitely in fun way..!  There are plenty of resources, use google image search, your favorite comic series would also do this well.
e.g. that one may fit for topics about architecture

Last but not least, we should not forget about the time aspect! Keep this as part of your wording, the context of your speech.

  • Past: give sense of what has been happening so far
  • Future: what we aim for and why?
  • Now: how we will reach that goal?

Literally, the overall structure looks like a matrix of 5×3 (5 vertical, 3 horizontal) and flows with the simplicity..!

Anecdotes:

  • I took the liberty of replacing ‘Stupid’ with ‘Sharp’, because stupidity doesn’t belong to any practice
  • I’ve been learning this practice for sometime at my work places, I’ll try to prepare an example to share.
    hopefully sooner than later, patience plz…

Till next post, simply keep smiling ;-)

Path to NINJA style…

What remains from the past is just memories… Little moments, things that seemed to be coincidental and so on. When you look back and try to connect the dots, patterns emerge!

Having said that, I want to share few stuff from the book I’ve been reading recently. This part is about the ‘South Indian Monkey Trap’..!

“The trap consists of a hollowed-out coconut chained to a stake. The coconut has some rice inside which can be grabbed through a small hole. The hole is big enough so that the monkey’s hand can go in, but too small for his fist with rice in it to come out. The monkey reaches in and is suddenly trapped—by nothing more than his own value rigidity. He can’t revalue the rice. He cannot see that freedom without rice is more valuable than capture with it. The villagers are coming to get him and take him away. They’re coming closer…closer!…now!”

We all get into such monkey traps thru our lives.
Think about it, how would you act when such thing happens to you?
Would you take the risk of staying hungry for the sake of freedom?!
Which one is more valuable for you?

Last year, esp. the last quarter of it, contains plenty of memorable experiences.
At that times, having read a book (which was remarkable gift from beloved friend, Takuan!) about Musashi, made me swim in the sea of inspiration. Later on, this became starting point to work on
How can I model Samurai style onto Software world?!“.
You heard it right, Samurai versus Software! sounds odd i know, yeah that’s the beauty of it! 8)

That period was the evolutionary birth of Ninja style development, better to say, the awakening of WareNinja..! still way to go, always room for improvement, surely there is no ultimate state ’cause it is all about the journey…

Btw. Recently I realized that my first post was on 23-10-2010
-> wareninja-new-development-style
Oct.23rd is WareNinja’s birthday! I’ll post something on that date for sure :-)

So to say, one year has passed so far, with a lot of changes… android, open source, blogging, practicing kung-fu, sharp decisions with no plan-b, this and that…
Moving way up north has been biggest change though (and the best choice so far!). new life, new job, new environment, new friends, new challenges, new inspirations, new surprises…

Remember;
Freedom is invaluable, there is no need to be in a monkey trap to realize that!

Stay inspired & keep smiling :-)

Simply it is “The fun way to discover interesting LOCOs..!”
We use ‘LOCO’ as the name of any location/geopoint.
LOCO as a word means ‘crazy’ in Spanish language, and when you say ‘e LOCO me’, the sound resembles the meaning of ‘and crazy me’  The idea & service has been developed by a small team of passionate entrepreneurs under WareNinja.

-> Why eLOCO.me ?
Facebook is about ‘what you do here’, Twitter is about ‘how you do here’, Foursquare is about ‘where you are’
eLOCO is about ‘WHY you are there’..!

If you read about the 5 elements of life, you will see that VOID state plays the most important role. As sincere and passionate player, eLOCO definitely aims to be the VOID state of social locations arena..!
Here comes a fun picture summarizing this arena ;-)

-> How does eLOCO work?

It is open community service which lets you tag ANY geopoint as per your interest. We aim to turn things upside down by redefining classical descriptions of social locations arena..!
For example;
POI means Point-of-Interest in classical world, however eLOCO re-defines this as Interesting POint to give full freedom to everyone! If you are at that location, this makes it interesting enough
You can tag & share & discover any LOCO mainly to please this question “Why you are there?“
